The season of new beginnings, where forgotten vows are renewed and love fills the air around us that transcends above all. Especially children who wait in much anticipation for their favourite guy - Ole' Santa Claus! Don't you just love the growing merriment and excitement filling the air as the big day draws near? Breathe in...ah, how can you not love the aroma of delicious gingerbread, cakes and cookies baking and other food which are specially prepared only during the Christmas season?

Time for parties and celebrations and you are probably scratching your head for ideas or small little parties for family and friends. This can be a challenge especially if you are looking at coming up with something fresh and new. Some tips here if you plan to hold a party at home:

\"Dessert Recipes\"

  • Firstly, have the right mix of music. Have lively Christmas music to create the right festive mood of party cheer as your guests enjoy the food and laughter. Can you picture your guests having fun with Silent Night playing in the background?
  • Next, decorate your house with traditional Christmas decorations to set the right atmosphere. Don't forget Christmas stockings, mistletoes and Christmas ribbons. Have plenty of lightings, especially outdoors. Pay special attention to the Christmas Tree. Make it sparklingly grand!
  • Kids will be at your party? Arrange special activities to occupy them and ensure sufficient supervision of them. Leave the tv on with Christmas cartoons or movies.
  • And most importantly, some Christmas dessert ideas if you're planning to serve your guests.
  • Prepare a wide spread of food and desserts, in other words, something for everyone. Dress desserts up with pretty traditional Christmas colours. Include cream cheese desserts, chocolate desserts and the traditional Christmas cake or puddings and even homemade candies for kids. Prepare great fruit punches so that everyone can enjoy them. Always prepare more than expected. That's the spirit of Christmas - giving and abundance.

Christmas Party Tips and Christmas Dessert Ideas

Easy chocolate desserts work best as they are a favourite with most folks, so you will almost never go wrong. You can also easily find many favourite Christmas dessert recipes that are available online or from recipe books if you are keen on making your own homemade cakes, cookies or pies. Again, easy is the keyword here, as you will want time to mingle around.

I have a simple recipe for you too - it's called the Delicious Yuletide Fruit Cake which took me less than 30 minutes to prepare so you'll have plenty of time for your guests too.

Ingredients :

1/2 cup Self-raising Flour; sifted

1 can Condensed Milk

1 tsp Vanilla Essence

1 1/2 cups Dessicated Coconut

2 1/2 cups Pecans; coarsely chopped

1 cup Dried Apricots; chopped into small bits

1 1/2 cups Dates; coarsely chopped

300 g Candied Cherries; red and green; chopped

2 tbsp Icing Sugar; for decoration

Method:

Mix chopped pecans, apricots bits, dates and cherries together. Drizzle condensed milk over fruit mixture and keep stirring. Add in vanilla essence. Now add in dessicated coconut. Fold in sifted flour until no more flour lumps.

Spoon cake mixture into greased tube pan. Bake in preheated oven at 150°C for 20 minutes before upping heat to 170°C and bake for another 30 minutes.

Allow cake to cool a little before removing from pan. Dust cake lightly with icing sugar. Keep cake in air-tight container.

Delightfully Scented Cinnamon Apple Bread for Christmas

This is a perfect Christmas holiday recipe and Christmas recipe for kids to have them help with the holiday baking!

Ingredients:

Desserts

2 1/2 cups flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon cinnamon

1 cup sugar

1/2 cup butter (melted)

1 egg (beaten)

1/2 cup milk

1 teaspoon vanilla

1 cup peeled, chopped apples

1/2 cup raisins

1/2 cup chopped pecans (optional)

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350F.

In a large bowl combine flour, baking soda, salt, sugar and cinnamon. Add melted butter, egg, milk and vanilla. Mix well. Fold in chopped apples, raisins and pecans (if using). Pour batter into a lightly greased loaf pan. Top with chopped pecans (if using).

Bake at 350F for approximately 45 minutes or until center is baked through. Cool for 10 minutes in pan before removing to wire rack to cool completely.

You can use a sugar substitute in this recipe, but I recommend using half substitute and half reas sugar if you're not diabetic. Diabetics should use their favorite sugar substitute they rely on for baking.

A few extra calories are hard to avoid during the holidays. It's dreaded by every woman on a diet--the holidays! Holidays are filled with tons of food, the nemesis of every dieter on the planet. If you're worried about how your diet will suffer during the holidays, try these tips for coping:

- Get Active. Just because it's cold outside doesn't mean you can't be active. Organize a group and go on a winter hike or ice skating. Even caroling can help take the focus off food while giving you some mild exercise too. Or go for a long walk to look at the Christmas lights. Think of small ways to stay active rather than vegging out indoors.

- Snack Light. Don't be afraid to have a few snacks at a party. But beware of snacking during the entire 3-5 hours! Allow yourself a small plate of snacks and stop there.

- Eat before you leave. If you're really worried about eating too much at a party, have a light, healthy meal before you leave. Eat something nutritious and filling, but leave enough room for a light dessert.

- Watch the Alcohol - With all those parties those few drinks can really add up. Take it easy on the alcohol as it has tons of calories. A good trick is to have a wine spritzer, mix a little wine with some club soda and sip slowly throughout the night; this could cut down your alcohol intake nearly by half.

- Forget about the Diet. Well don't dump your diet altogether or you may regret in the New Year, just don't focus on it. If you constantly worry about your diet or how many pounds you might gain during the holidays, you'll be likely to eat more. Instead, concentrate on the wonderful company you are sharing and stop worrying so much about overeating.

Christmas Sweets

Merry Christmas! Happy Holidays! Come one, come all! Yes, it is the cooking season, I mean holiday season, so get ready to get your money's worth out of your kitchen this Christmas with cooking your feasts for your family.

Everyone looks forward to the feast, but what I look forward to most is the obscene amount of sweets and pastry that will be placed in front of me and the little restraint that I must show towards them.

Desserts

Here are three of my favorite Christmas sweet specials that you should try this holiday season:

· Brownie Bonbons Recipe
· Candied Orange Peels Recipe
· Choco-Cherry Truffles Recipe

Brownie Bonbons

For making the perfect brownie "bonbons" you need a package of brownie mix (the more chocolately the better) and a half a cup of crushed candy canes. The first step is to make the brownies, just like any brownies before. Take them out of the oven a little before they are done and roll them into small balls. Then crush up the candy canes and roll the brownie balls into the candy canes, completely coating them. Let them cool and then serve!

Candied Orange Peels

To make candied orange peels you need the peels of three large oranges, a cup of water, two table spoons of corn syrup, and 3 cups of sugar. First take your peels and cut them into strips, about a quarter inch wide. Then boil a pot of water with the corn syrup, and sugar until completely dissolved. Simmer the orange peels for forty minutes, then let cool on a cookie sheet, and wait for them to cool. Enjoy!

Choco-Cherry Truffles

Just the word truffle makes me start to drool. Truffles are one of those foods that everyone loves, so you won't go wrong if you decide to try this recipe. Melt the semisweet chocolate in with the milk and salt in a saucepan (watch carefully as it tends to burn). Next, stir in the liquor, cherries, and nuts. Allow this mixture to cool and put in the refrigerator for at least an hour. The next part requires you to scoop out balls of chocolate. Then cover these balls of chocolate with melted white chocolate and sprinkles.

Christmas Symbols - The Meaning Of The Candy Cane

Some customs and traditions are world-widely recognized and accepted, sharing common symbols that identify a season or celebration. Candy canes are listed among those symbols decorating our homes during the winter days.

If you are in search for Christmas Gift Ideas, candy is a traditional present that often is included on the wish list of children and adults. Whether candy canes or hard candy, Christmas is, in addition, a season to explore your creativity.

Candy

Candy can be used for both decorating and eating ideas. Ginger shaped cookies and candy canes are a common Christmas decoration in many homes around the world during this season of the year.

Hard candy is excellent to mold decorative figures or shape them with the aid of a cookie cutter. Browse for old family recipes or ask you mom or grandmother for them. You will be amazed with the artwork that you can create with just candy and imagination.

Creativity is important for developing your own Christmas Gift Ideas, but also if you want to purchase some items already made. Give yourself a day for browsing stores and rediscovering the many faces of candy canes.

Canes are often white and red candy, but there are also those listed in green, usually with a touch of mint, and all of them in different size, soft or hard candy, and even molded with different shapes or covered with chocolate.

If you are planning to invite your friends and family to celebrate Christmas at your home, make sure to create a comfortable, warm climate, and decorate your home with candy canes in various color combinations or purchase some of those popular candy cane ornaments available almost anywhere.

However, if you are going to hang up your candy near the Christmas lights, make sure that you are getting hard candy products or it is possible they will melt being so close to the hot bulbs.

After or during the party, allow your guests to take some of the candy cane hanging ornaments, being an excellent prize if you host a reunion in which people compete or play challenging games.

Christmas Gift Ideas that are more traditional include handmade items and artwork, including scholar projects with candy that might be assigned to your children, but providing excellent ideas and fun for all the family, getting involved in decorating and gift making.

Otherwise, as close as this reading, the Internet is an excellent source for Christmas Gift Ideas, including products that you can purchase such as candy baskets, a snowman molded in hard candy, and countless items based on candy canes.

You have the right of choice, purchase home or factory made-gifts, or do it by yourself. There are candy cane boxes especially decorated with Christmas motifs so you can put a bow and a card on them and your gifts are ready, but even more satisfactory is sewing a little bag to be filled with home-made candy that you can prepare.

Christmas Dinner Traditions and Dessert Ideas

Christmas is my family's favorite time of year. We have many Christmas traditions that we've developed over the years.  One is that each year one of us daughters (mother and sister-in-laws) is responsible for a part of the dinner.  My favorite part to make is the Christmas desserts.

Our family is large, there are five sisters, four brothers and both parents still living. We also have a lot of wives, husbands, nieces and nephews mixed in. When we get together there are twenty seven people.  Each year one of us cooks for a different segment. We put the dinner segments in a hat. After dinner, after all the dishes are done and we're relaxing we choose what our dishes will be for the next year. The menu is broken up into appetizers, before and after dinner drinks (for the adults), meat, stuffing/potatoes (starch), vegetables, rolls, desserts. Two people are responsible for meat, two for stuffing/potatoes and two for vegetables. One for appetizers, one for before and after dinner drinks and one for desserts. And, now that there are ten of us every year one lucky girl gets a get out of jail free card, which means she doesn't have to cook the next year!

Dessert

As I said earlier Christmas dessert is my favorite. I start cooking about a week in advance. I know everybody's favorites, and like to add a few new things.  I like to make lots of different types of desserts for the family. One of my favorites is Black Bottom Cup Cakes. Another is Greek Almond Cookies. These are super simple. Another favorite is definitely a Red Velvet Cake with Butter Cream Icing. It's my Grandmother's recipe and the family loves it. The Red Velvet Cake is the one thing we're guaranteed to have every year, regardless of who is assigned dessert duty.

I also make a Cinnamon Crumb Cake, a Chocolate Truffle with Raspberry Sauce and a Louisiana Roasted Pecan Pie.  All of these things make quite an impressive looking Christmas dessert buffet and everyone is able to find something that they really like.

Over the years we girls have shared recipes between us.  We all love cooking, us sisters were all raised to enjoy being in the kitchen.  When a new item is introduced to the table there is also a menu card for each sister for that new item.  When I added Greek Almond Cookies to the dessert table last year everyone was amazed how easy the recipe is. I got it from an actual Greek friend, Valerie.  The Cinnamon Crumb Cake is also easy to make and goes really well with a cup of coffee after dinner.

One year when my sister-in-law picked the Christmas dessert portion of our meal I gave her a lot of advice on recipes as she really isn't comfortable baking. I went to her home two days before Christmas and helped her make the traditional Red Velvet Cake. She did it really well and is now a pro!

Perhaps if you have a large family you can do something like our family does. We all enjoy our Christmas cooking tradition.
